Cutting Board Maintenance
Your cutting / serving board has been treated with high quality, food-safe finishes by Howard Products. First, all boards are saturated with mineral oil, then two coats of Howard’s Wax It All are applied.
As you use your board, you may have questions about maintenance to ensure it retains its beauty for the long-term. Below are some recommendations for caring for your new board.
Washing After Use
I do not recommend using traditional dish soap. Instead, use Howard’s Cutting Board Cleaner after each use, which is much gentler on hardwood.
Ensure you completely dry your cutting board immediately after washing.
After several washes, your board may appear less pristine. You may add an additional coat of Howard’s Wax It All. This food-safe finish is made of bees and carnauba wax which helps protect the board.
Managing knife marks / refinishing
All wood cutting boards will eventually develop knife marks on the surface. Edge or face grain cutting boards will develop knife marks more easily compared to an end-grain cutting board because of the orientation of the wood fibers. However, managing knife marks is easy!
If you have access to a sander at home, you can easily sand your cutting board until the knife marks are no longer visible.
Then, you will re-apply mineral oil, then two coats of Howard’s Wax It All. Your board will be good as new!
If you are not comfortable with refinishing your board, I am here to help with the cutting board maintenance package, whether I made your cutting board or not!
By purchasing this option, you will send your cutting board to me to be resurfaced and apply food safe finish. Check out the Shop to get started!
